Dating is a stage of romantic relationships in Western societies in which two people meet socially. With the intention of each assessing the other’s suitability as a prospective partner in a future intimate relationship.

It is a type of courtship in which the couple engages in social activities either alone or with others.

However, dating is still essential even if you get married or have a life partner.

Dr. Lisa Marie Bobby, founder and clinical director of Growing Self said:

“Even in long-term relationships, you can hack your brain to feel fluttery, in-love feelings with your partner by doing activities together that are novel, new, or even anxiety-provoking.”

These kinds of activities aren’t just for passing the time. Novelty stimulates the release of dopamine. It’s a brain chemical involved in that top-of-the-world and song-in-your-heart feeling of falling in love.

This list will give you unexpectedly romantic things to do if you want to increase your dopamine levels.

Have a pen and paper handy, and make it a reality with you and your partner.

1. Go for a hike

Head to a designated hiking trail if one is available in your area. You and your partner will be forced to overcome obstacles on the way up (#bonding). And the views from the top will be breathtaking.

2. Improve your culinary abilities

You may not be raising your heart rate as much as putting a fork to your mouth, but take a cooking class with a friend and learn to cook together.

You may never make pots de crème again, but you and your partner may finally learn how to properly chop an onion and begin cooking at home. That is associated with a healthier diet, according to research.

3. Take a ride on a roller coaster

The lighter version of The Bachelorette’s standard skydiving date is going to an amusement park to ride the roller coasters. Come to think of it, they’ve done this on the show as well — who knew those producers were such romantic experts? If you’re afraid of heights, keep in mind that there’s funnel cake on the other side to reward your bravery.

4. Bring out the bicycles

Maybe you haven’t been on two wheels since you were a kid, but now is the time to get back on.

Look for restaurants in your area that are bike-able and pedal your way there for brunch or dinner. Take it easy on the wine so you can still steer properly.

5. Go stand-up paddleboarding

Stand-up paddleboarding is not only a great core workout. It also tests your balance and endurance, which are two essential qualities in any good relationship. You and your partner will most likely be able to share a few (good-natured) laughs as the other falls off.

6. Take a dog for a walk

No, this isn’t a request for you to get a dog. Contact a nearby animal shelter to see if they need volunteers to walk their dogs. The puppies get exercise, you get exercise, and everyone is happier in the end. Aside from the feel-good factor, this date idea could lay the groundwork for a long and happy life together. Research shows that those who volunteer to help others are more likely to have a long life.

7. Climb a mountain

What it means is that you should go to a local gym with a rock wall and climb it while wearing a safety harness. You’ll put your upper body strength to the test, as well as your faith in bae (if they’re holding the safety ropes on the ground). Climbing, depending on how high you go, can also provide the adrenaline rush of other extreme sports, though in a more controlled setting.

8. Work on your downward dog

Attend a yoga class. If either of you is new to yoga or is hesitant to begin, look for a community class at a nearby studio. These are often provided for free or at a reduced, donation-only rate. If you’re an experienced yogi, try a hot yoga class — it’s a true test of mental, physical, and spiritual strength.

9. Serve some love

With a friendly tennis match, you can bring out your competitive side while also promising to be good sports about it. Singles tennis is a true cardio workout; if you play in the sun, expect things to heat up.

10. Overcome a race together

Mark your calendar for an upcoming race, whether it’s a 5K or a marathon. Training together and pursuing a common goal — and the glory of completion will provide that runner’s (and lover’s) high. If that’s too much of a commitment, join a recreational running club and take part in one of their scheduled runs.

So it stands to reason that if you want to maintain that sensation, you should do things together that flood your brain with this feel-good chemical.
