To everyone who has a driver’s license, the following situation will probably be very similar. After all, who hasn’t gotten frustrated when they were driving behind another car, which seemed to go a lot slower than you’re actually allowed to drive.
When you’re driving behind someone who’s moving dozens of miles slower than the actual speed limit, a lot of people are bound to get frustrated.
On a popular road in the United States, a police officer had to pull over an elderly woman because she was simply driving way too slowly.
A lot of people actually don’t realize that driving slowly can be just as dangerous as speeding. In this particular funny story, it was actually quite severe.
The old lady was only registering 22 miles per hour on the speedometer, making her a danger on the road.
Of course, this police officer wasn’t too keen on pulling over an elderly woman, but he did it for the safety of herself and the other drivers on the road. He knows that some elderly people will react very nervously and freak out because they think they’re in trouble, but he couldn’t just let this one slide and gave the woman the signal to pull over.
When the police officer got closer, it became clear that the car was actually packed full, there were five old ladies in there.
Right away, he also noticed that the five women looked absolutely terrified. They looked like ghosts and seemed like they were shocked, and the cop even felt a bit uncomfortable. He automatically assumed that these old ladies were extremely nervous because they were pulled over, but he tried to make them more at ease by giving them a big smile while stepping towards the driver’s window.
The elderly lady who was driving immediately started talking to him.
“Officer, I don’t understand, I was doing exactly the speed limit! What seems to be the problem?” she said.
The police officer then simply said that the car was driving at a dangerously slow speed, much slower than the speed limit.
It’s very easy to misjudge the velocity of a car in front of them if they’re driving at a particularly slow speed, and there have been plenty of car crashes and minor accidents involved with people who drive too slowly.
However, the elderly lady was actually very surprised – she insisted that she was following the speed limit perfectly.
“Slower than the speed limit? No sir, I was doing the speed limit exactly… Twenty-two miles an hour!”
Immediately, the police officer had a huge grin on his face.
22 wasn’t the speed limit- it was the route number.
Luckily, he explained everything to them and just told them it was all a big misunderstanding. The driver, understandably very embarrassed, thanked the police officer.
Before they parted ways, however, the cop wanted to ask one more question he had been dying to ask. He didn’t forget about all of the shocked faces of the four other women and wanted to make sure they were okay.
“Hang on a minute. Are your passengers alright? They look a little disturbed to me.”
The elderly woman turned around, checked on all the passengers while giving them a smile. None of them, all still looking like ghosts, responded to the police officer’s query.
The driver then turned towards the police officer again.
“Oh, they’ll be alright in a minute officer. We just got off of Route 123.”
In times like these, the world can definitely use more funny stories and jokes like these!
