No one is ever ready to receive news that they have cancer, and even if we have the latest technology, having cancer is still one of the biggest battles that anyone could face.
According to Cancer.gov, it has been estimated that 39.5% of men and women will be diagnosed with cancer. It’s very alarming, and the sad part is that it’s still growing.
Also, new data in 2020 shows that an estimated 16,850 children and teens will be diagnosed with some type of cancer.
Fighting Cancer
When the doctor tells you that you have cancer, it’s as if your whole world crashes in front of you, but you know what? Being able to hear the news that your child has cancer is much more devastating.
As parents, we would do everything to make sure that our kids are healthy. Unfortunately, no matter what we do, cancer can strike at anyone, young and old.
Receiving such news is more than just devastating, it is heart-wrenching, but you can’t show how much it hurts. That’s not even an option for us parents.
As a parent, we need to show our kids that we’re strong even at this moment.
We have to stay strong and positive; after all, our kids will look at us and get their strength through us. Through this crisis, a parent should always be there for their kids, no matter how unbearable the situation is.
Seeing our child hurt and suffering is much worse for us. If we can take that pain away – we will.
Cancer is so unfair. How can it attack young children? How can it cause so much pain and suffering?
How can we, as parents, help our child feel better? Is there a way? Is it even possible? This story will show us that the love of a parent can conquer all barriers for their child.
The Devastating News
Chuck Yielding knows this all too well because his 14-year-old son, Aiden, was recently diagnosed with ALL or Acute Lymphocytic Leukemia.
It was news that devastated them, but they vowed to fight and do everything they can to support their son’s treatment.
However, because of the pandemic, the hospital implemented some new rules. The Yielding family can only choose one relative to stay with the boy throughout his treatment.
Chuck and his wife knew that the best choice would be Lori since she works in the hospital. This was sad news for Aiden’s dad since he wanted to support his son’s chemotherapy journey as well.
But, as they say, love will always find a way.
According to a viral post from Cook Medical Hospital, every Tuesday Chuck stands outside the hospital and finds the nearest window where his son can see him, and from there, he dances to lift Aiden’s spirits.
“Just anything to bring his spirits up a little bit, and let him know he is not alone. We are with him,” Chuck shared in his interview with CBS affiliate KTVT.
A Father’s Love
When you first see the video of Chuck dancing, you’d think that he’s drunk, or even on steroids. Some may even think that he’s doing a TikTok video. We’re also pretty sure that some people seeing him would judge him based on what he’s doing.
He has already tried dancing the Saturday Night Fever dance and even the chicken dance. Whatever is trending, he’d probably know how to dance that as well.
He takes his time researching what’s new, what’s catchy, and what his son would love.
We admire Chuck’s idea of showing his love for his son. This dad didn’t care what other people said about his ideas. He didn’t care if people were watching him.
All he cared about is that he’s there, showing his support and love for his son.
If you think he’s trying to look silly, then you’re correct. Why? Because this will make Aiden laugh, and there’s nothing more important now than seeing his beloved baby boy laughing.
He never fails. Aiden appreciates, and of course, enjoys his father’s dance numbers.
Cook Children’s Hospital noticed this routine and thought it was really, so they decided to record Chuck’s performance and then shared it on their Facebook page.
According to their now-viral post:
“Every Tuesday, while Aiden’s mom joins him in the clinic for cancer treatment, his dad, Chuck, stands outside and dances to lift Aiden’s spirits. Here is a highlight reel of Chuck’s best moves.”
In the viral post from Cooks Children’s Hospital, Chuck can be seen dancing. He’s very energetic as he dances for his son. We love the bright orange outfit as well.
Aiden easily spotted his dad with those clothes, plus, it suits Chuck well.
Aiden laughs and enjoys his father’s performance. He even tries to dance with him even if they are far away from each other.
Battling cancer is tough, not just for the patient; but also for the people who love the one fighting it. It’s something that will test your faith, your love, and your patience with each other – but we shouldn’t underestimate what love can do.
Chuck is the perfect example of a man who loves his child and will always find ways to make sure that he’s there for him.
It may be a small gesture for some, but for the Yielding family, this sweet gesture is enough to show Aiden that he’s loved and that his father, Chuck, always thinks of him.
Cancer is no joke but neither are we. We’re resilient and we’re tough, we’re ready to fight for our health and to fight for the people that we love.
We’ll never let cancer win!
