Sisters Christine and Cindy contacted Oprah to help their 63-year-old mother, Joan.

Since 1965, Joan has always had a “beehive” hairdo. It was popular at the time, and Joan fell in love with the look. But fast forward 40 years later, and the “beehive” hairdo is a thing of the past.

More importantly, her “beehive” hairdo is SUPER high-maintenance.

It totaled four whole hours! Joan would tie her hair up using 12 hairpins, brush out the previous teasing, wash her hair, set it in rollers of various sizes, and then sit under a dryer for an hour. Once her hair dried, she would do the process all over again and roll it up into a beehive until next week.

“She recently canceled a vacation for fear that she would set off the metal detectors and airport security would confiscate her hairpins,” Oprah told her audience.

Cindy said in their video that it was such a big deal if her mom took her hair down to dive in the lake with them. She and Christine believe that if swimming up high was an Olympic sport, Joan would win the gold medal.

Every Wednesday, at about 5:30 in the morning, Joan would wake up to begin the 4-hour process of doing her hair.

Viewers of the video were impressed at her skills:

“The updating was nice but you have to admit that was an ON FLEEK French Twist! The fact that she could do that by herself is amazing. Most retro dos I have seen are usually kind of sloppy… This lady had a perfect french twist with an Italian top – she should get a Sally Ponce award for that!”

The sisters didn’t just have an issue with their mom’s hair, but also her wardrobe. In their video for Oprah, they rifled through their mom’s closet and pulled out numerous articles of denim clothing.

“She says she feels like 50, so let’s look like you’re 50!” Cindy said about her mother.

A beauty team, including hairstylist Ken Paves tackled Joan’s outdated look – and they really worked some magic.

Of course, Joan was stunning to begin with and what matters most is that you’re happy with your own look. But Joan’s daughter’s had her best interests in mind and it was clear she was up to the challenge of seeing a whole new reflection in the mirror!

Cindy and Christine were anxiously sitting in the crowd when Oprah asked if they’d like to see their mom.

When Joan finally came out onto the stage of The Oprah Winfrey show, the entire audience gasped.

Then everyone erupted into cheers when Joan did a little twirl on stage to show off her new look.

Joan had finally let her hair down, ditched the gray hair and denim, and looked like a brand new woman. Oprah even told Joan’s daughters that she looked like their sister, not their mother.
