It’s hard to stare at yourself in the mirror every day and wish that you were thinner. Many people know that feeling all too well. They also know that wishing isn’t going to make it happen. It takes a lot of hard work and a lot of time.
At 22 years old, Laura Micetich weighed over 300 pounds.
She tried to act like her weight didn’t bother her, but she wished that she were thinner and healthier. She explained:
“I grew up heavy. I also grew up a ball buster. So, there was no chance I was going to admit I was insecure about my appearance. I played it cool and a lot of people bought it. After finally having time to think about who I wanted to be, I decided to make a change.”
So, she started looking at her options.
Maybe she could lose some weight without surgery. She headed to the gym to try a workout. From there, she decided that it was time for a permanent change. She added:
“I decided to take charge of my life and make a change. After trying and failing to get a handle on my health numerous times, my weight had become a serious enough concern that I was considering weight loss surgery.”
She decided to try to lose some weight on her own.
Little did she know that a few baby steps would turn into something way bigger. She had hoped to lose a few pounds, but she ended up changing her lifestyle. She said:
“What initially began because of consideration for weight loss surgery quickly grew into an intense love of health, fitness, and nutrition. I started by going to the gym, lifting weights and eating a clean diet tailored to my body’s needs. It only took a few weeks for me to realize that I didn’t need to go under the knife. I needed to get under the bar.”
She was surprised at how much weight she started losing.
The more she worked out, the more the weight fell right off, and she was also gaining muscle and changing the look of her body. She was taking responsibility for herself and start making smarter food choices, too.
“In the first year, I shed more than 100 pounds without surgery and significantly changed my unhealthy habits. I am now health issue free and my life has changed for the better with the simple realization that what we want and what we do are completely in our own control.”
She tossed out all the junk she had in her house and start buying better foods.
She also started eating at home more and even gave up drinking and binging on takeout. She said:
“I just adjusted my diet. I ate lots of clean foods and removed all starches and processed sugars. I stopped eating out. I stopped getting takeout. I stopped buying junk at the grocery store”
“I stopped having alcoholic drinks with friends. I stopped binging on crap. That was it.”
She goes to the gym every day and still considers herself a work in progress. Still, she is looking and feeling better. She looks amazing, but, more importantly, she is healthier and also happy with the way she looks. She also recently underwent a procedure to lose excess skin left behind after her weight loss.
She posted about her weight loss on social media and hopes that her story will motivate others.
She believes that if she can do it, everyone can do it. She sends out positive messages and posts photos of her results as she goes along. She has a pretty big following, and most people are shocked to see how much weight she lost and how her body changed.
She recently posted:
“I am now health issue free and my life has changed for the better with the simple realization that what we want and what we do are completely in our own control.”
Those are some great words to live by. We all have the ability to get into the shape we want to be in and to improve our health. We just have to take those first few baby steps to get the ball rolling.
