The firefighters of the Orange County fire station are used to dealing with unexpected circumstances and definitely know how to help people with strange requests,

But this time- they encountered something rather unexpected that was a little bit out of their comfort zone as well.

Just fifteen hours after her baby was born, a mom decided to give her up at the fire station.

Luckily, the mom didn’t just leave the baby hanging on the streets because those stories have the tendency to end badly.

She made sure that the baby was safe and somewhere in a secure place via a safe surrender site.

The firefighter department station was full of people who were more than willing to give this baby the love, care, and attention she deserved.

Apparently, the baby’s mother was looking for assistance and realized she couldn’t properly take care of her child, which is why she headed towards the station.

The baby, who listens to the name Naomi, was safe and sound with Captain Daryll Millot, who didn’t hesitate for a second to take care of the little girl and sacrifice his evening and night.

It was still quite shocking for the captain and his colleagues because Naomi was actually the very first baby that was surrendered in Orange County, California.

There were three other firefighters on duty who helped take care of little Naomi: Tyler Green, Shawn Stacy, and Michael de Leon all assisted their captain.

At first, de Leon really couldn’t comprehend how someone could give up their own child, he was completely shocked.

However, after giving it some thought, he changed his mind and thinks it’s the best thing to do in circumstances like these.

“The first thing that comes to your mind is, ‘How can you surrender your baby?’ But then, when you really think about what happened,” he told. “It’s really heroic and brave to do it.”

Of course, the firemen couldn’t take care of the baby forever, so a meeting with a social worker was already set in place for the following day.

Nonetheless, Naomi loved her stay at the fire department, and the four men who took care of her absolutely bonded with the little girl. They also gave her her name and proudly considered themselves to be her ‘uncles’.

However, they also knew that Naomi couldn’t stay there. Together with the social worker, they figured out what the best course of action was to make sure that Naomi would end up in a warm and loving home.

Even though Naomi’s story started off rather negatively, she couldn’t be doing any better now!

Very soon after the social worker arrived, a loving and warm family was found for her. Krysten and Kurt Snyder were thrilled to welcome little Naomi into their family and home, and she immediately gained a half-brother.

Aside from her new family, Naomi will also still have her four ‘uncles’ that she met at the fire department.

For the four men, it’ll be something that they’ll truly never forget, and they hope to catch up with Naomi on a regular basis.

“This is one of the few things in my 25 years of being a fireman that it’s just the greatest ending of the story,” Milliot told. “This is so unique and rare, it’s something I never thought I would do.

After nine months, Krysten took Naomi back to the fire department for a reunion.

The firefighters even witnessed the adoption ceremony and made sure that ‘their’ little girl was going to end up in good hands.

“It’s one of the highlights of my career by far,” de Leon mentioned. “Going to that ceremony and getting to see her again… ‘Cause you know, when it happens, you don’t really know what’s going to happen to the baby.”

Naomi’s adoptive mom Krysten also wants to make sure that Naomi knows the story about her mom, and how brave she was to make that heartbreaking and extremely difficult choice.

“It really is a great opportunity for us to tell her about her mom and what a courageous thing she did,” Krysten told.
